Sceneries

As many times as I've seen the sunset, I never really paid close attention to it. I started my English observation project on September 14th, 2014. Being two weeks already with this project I've been seeing different things each day.

Recently, where I live there was a big fire that had broken out nearby and the sky was smokey and gloomy. I didn't expect the sunset to be so sad at this time but it was. I didn't know that the smoke would have had such a big impact on the way the sunset looked. All I could see when I would observe the sunset was just a little dot in the sky slowly fading away. The smoke had pretty much covered the whole sky and I thought of it as an inconvenience. I couldn't see the real beautiful sunset I thought I'd be observing because of the smoke.

September 23,2014 the smoke had finally started to disappear. since the time I started observing this had been the only evening I had been able to capture the beautiful scenery of a sunset. the sky looked brighter and full of life with colors forming in all directions. Here is a picture I had taken:

            My photo from 9/23

I couldn't take my eyes off of this. I just think it's amazing how nature works. But what I want to research in the future is what makes the sky change color during a sunset? Why does it happen?

Over the next few days I will be observing I'm wondering if the sunset will look different now that it's fall. I'm questioning if there will be different colors I will be able to see or not.

  1. I hope you do the research. I've never thought about the why of sunsets. I love how you describe the sky during the fires as sad. PS--your photo didn't post :(

  3. I love how you say the sunset was sad, it's a great visual. I think that you should take more pictures of the sunset from different views. Maybe some at different stages of a sunset? Oh you could compare a sunset and a sunrise too. Those would be cool and very interesting to see! I'm excited to see the sunset when winter comes!

  4. I think it's crazy how the smoke can affect even our view on the sun! Sunset that is. Plus, I think it's going to be interesting in what you will discover... and just wondering why did you choose to do the sunset? Are you going to be observing it from the same place. ( Well I guess it doesn't really matter if you do, or not.)

  5. I love the concept of this observation. I love watching sunsets because they are always so beautiful. The picture you got of the sunset was amazing. Whenever I try to take a picture of the sunset, they never turn out the way I would like them to, but your picture was beautiful. I think it would be really cool if you were about to get a picture of the sunset for almost every day of the project and compare them. I loved the way you described the sad sunset, the way it was just a dot going down behind the smoke. I loved the image it created in my mind. I'm excited to see where you go with this.

  6. I absolutely love the way you describe the sunset as "sad." I think it's beautiful the way you make that connection and similarity. I love sunsets and I love the sky in general so I'm really excited about your blog. There's so many things out there than can affect the sky, and I like how you clarified that with the smoke. I can't wait for your next post(:
